Abubakar Malami Tells Followers to Steer Clear of Triggering Statements Before 2027 Elections

Urging Caution: Malami Advocates for Steering Clear of Inflammatory Statements in 2027

In a call to his supporters, the ex-Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami (SAN) under the All Progressives Congress (APC) has advocated against making election-stoking statements that could stir tensions leading up to the 2027 elections.

Speaking through his Media Adviser, Mohammed Doka, Malami warned against comments that risked our democracy or national unity, stating, "I ask our young supporters to focus on substantive discussions instead of threatening our democracy and national unity."

Being labeled as a peace-oriented and law-abiding citizen, Malami has maintained his commitment to fostering peace, unity, and harmony in the state.

With political activity ramping up and speculations swirling around Malami's political future, he has steered clear of confirming affiliations to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or the Social Democratic Party (SDP), and his stance within the APC remains unchanged.

According to sources, the SDP had allegedly extended an olive branch to Malami, offering him the Kebbi State governorship ticket. However, Malami has remained hesitant, keeping a watchful eye on the prospective alliance between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris.

A trustworthy source close to Malami revealed that expectations for Malami to defect from the APC alongside former Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, in mid-April, had been delayed due to their focus on the moves of Governor Nasir Idris.

These developments come as former Kaduna governor, Nasir El-Rufai, is rumored to have convened a meeting with northern political players in Katsina to build a formidable political coalition that competes with the APC government in 2027. Reports indicate that El-Rufai pledged his support for Malami should he choose to join the SDP.

Yet, Malami has been noncommittal, considering that El-Rufai has yet to gain national acceptance in the South since his recent SDP defection. With multiple political factions at play, the question lingers: Is Malami equipped to challenge the incumbent governor and secure the Kebbi State governorship in 2027 if he does eventually defect and join the SDP coalition?

Politicians' Affiliations

While Abubakar Malami remains a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), there have been whispers of his potential defection to either the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for the 2027 elections[1][3].

Partnership Tensions

The alliance between the SDP, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris could be a deciding factor for Malami when considering potential offers from the SDP[2]. If Idris were to claim the guber ticket for Atiku in the 2027 elections, Malami may decide to remain within the APC instead.
