Wadephul Urges Iran: Get Back to the Negotiations Table, But Show You Mean Business
West urges Iran to rejoin the negotiating process - Urges Iran to Resume Negotiations
Johann Wadephul, of the CDU, had a chat with Iran's Foreign Minister on Monday. Along with his French, British, and EU colleagues, he delivered a clear message - "We, the E3, are ready to negotiate a solution, but Iran needs to act now."
Iran's uranium enrichment program, which allegedly goes beyond civilian purposes, is under scrutiny. Wadephul says Tehran must demonstrate its intention to abandon this program and ensure it won't position itself to erase Israel from the map. If Iran makes its intentions crystal clear, the E3 will get back to the negotiating table.
However, Iran better steer clear of attacking US facilities in the Middle East. If American facilities are targeted, there will be a military response, Wadephul warned. But, he reiterated his earlier stance that the USA would not be intervening militarily in this conflict, at least not directly.
German citizens in both Iran and Israel are on the move, with special flights planned to bring 180 nationals home each from Jordanian capital Amman on Wednesday and Thursday. The excellent cooperation with Jordan has made this possible.
Images of rocket impacts in Tel Aviv are shocking, and the Iranian civilian population is living in complete uncertainty. The Iranian leadership has taken to the internet for information dissemination.
Recent Israeli military actions have disrupted the previous negotiation attempts, but the E3 remains committed to finding a diplomatic solution to prevent Iran from attaining nuclear weapons.
Since the end of 2024, Iran has been in talks with the E3 over its nuclear program, alongside other countries such as China, Russia, and indirect talks with the United States, brokered by Oman. In June 2025, E3 Foreign Ministers and the EU High Representative expressed their concerns over the escalating tensions in the Middle East and Israel’s security during a meeting with their Iranian counterpart in Geneva.
The IAEA has condemned the attacks on nuclear facilities and emphasized that such sites should never be targeted, regardless of the circumstances. Israel's airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities and military assets have significantly damaged the Natanz enrichment plant, parts of the Isfahan site, the heavily fortified Fordow site, and led to the death of at least 14 Iranian nuclear scientists. These attacks have disrupted diplomatic efforts, resulting in the cancellation of a planned sixth round of US-Iran indirect talks in Oman.
The geopolitical dynamics surrounding the US-Iran negotiations are complex, with Russia and China supporting Iran’s nuclear ambitions and engaging with the IAEA, adding more layers to the ongoing confrontation. The E3 seeks to find a diplomatic solution while affirming Israel's security concerns and urging all parties to de-escalate the situation to prevent further chaos in the region.
- The European Union is also calling on the EU to support the efforts of the United States to bring the ongoing US-Iran conflict, exacerbated by Iran's uranium enrichment program, under control to a peaceful and orderly conclusion.
- As the situation in war-and-conflicts zones like the Middle East unfolds, the migration of German citizens from both Iran and Israel continues, with politics and policy-and-legislation playing significant roles in ensuring national security and safety.
- In the midst of the general news coverage of the escalating US-Iran conflict and its impact on regional stability, recent examples of conflict dispersing diplomatic efforts, such as the disruption of the sixth round of US-Iran indirect talks in Oman, should serve as a reminder of the importance of dialogues and negotiations in resolving war-and-conflicts.
