Parliamentary committee hearing discusses termination controversy - Chair missing - Urgent Procedure Request Remains Unanswered by the Commission

The former Hessian Minister of Economics, Lamia Messari-Becker, finds herself at the center of a political storm after her abrupt dismissal. Her tormented ex-advisor has bared all before the parliamentary investigation committee, painting a damning picture of the embattled politician.

The exiled advisor, once a trusted confidant within the Ministry of Economics, claimed in the plenary hall of the state parliament that Messari-Becker had driven him away with her erratic behavior and harsh, abusive demeanor. He alleged that she often became irate, resorting to intimidating and insulting tactics, even making sexually charged comments against the ministry leadership.

Furthermore, the administrative scientist testified that Messari-Becker maintained a peculiar work schedule, prioritizing her personal sports over official duties on Wednesday mornings and working from home on Fridays. These claims were echoed by a former assistant to the ex-state secretary.

Messari-Becker, in a defensive stance, had previously denied many damaging allegations made against her during an earlier committee session. She expressed her struggles adapting to the political environment within the ministry, citing unclear responsibilities, prolonged decision-making processes, and disrespectful treatment as a political novice.

Intriguingly, Economics Minister Kaweh Mansoori (SPD) removed Messari-Becker in July 2024 due to unspecified private "misconduct." Court documents revealed that Mansoori primarily accused Messari-Becker of exerting pressure during a parent-teacher conference at one of her daughter's schools for a better Abitur grade. Messari-Becker vehemently denies these allegations and has engaged legal counsel to defend her.

Professor Michael Bauerle, an expert in administrative law, supported Mansoori's actions for transparency, stating that his public comment about the terminated trust relationship was justified. In contrast, another legal expert, Thorsten Masuch, accused Mansoori of neglecting his duty of care towards Messari-Becker by allowing her to be publicly implicated without proper investigation.

The Hessian data protection officer, Alexander Roßnagel, reported that his office had received two complaints concerning the dismissal affair. However, he could not identify any data protection violations based on his current knowledge.

The mayor of Darmstadt, Hanno Benz (SPD), added fuel to the fire, testifying about another allegation against Messari-Becker. She stands accused of trying to hinder a neighbor's residential expansion by invoking her high office at the building authority, citing potential views into her property. The former building authority director confirmed this, while Messari-Becker denied it, stating that the building permit had already been granted, and her intentions were solely to exercise her rights as a citizen. Benz emphasized that there is no favoritism in construction matters within the city.
