Urgent Global Climate Crisis Alert on World Environment Day by Kishore Upadhyay: Preserve Himalayas to Protect Lives Worldwide

Harm's Way: A Warning Cry over Melting Himalayan Glaciers and Dying Ganga

New Delhi, India, June 6 - A stirring awareness event was held on World Environment Day, spearheaded by Voice of Ganga and Himalaya - A Global Organization, under the banner of "Melting Himalayan Glaciers, Dying Ganga". Held at IIC, New Delhi, the event attracted environmentalists, policymakers, students, and activists from across the nation.

Chief Guest, Union Minister Shri Chirag Paswan, shared his sentiment, stressing, "The Himalayas and Ganga aren't mere symbols of our environment; they're India's lifeblood. Their preservation isn't just the Ministry of Environment's mission, but every citizen's moral duty. We need to turn this into a mass movement."

environmentalist and mentor of The Global Himalaya Organization, Kishore Upadhyay, echoed the urgency, "The Himalayas sustain not just North India but the entire South Asian region. If the glaciers keep melting at this rate, future generations may lack even drinking water, leading to social and economic devastation. This isn't just an environmental crisis; it's a harbinger of impending disaster."

With a recent global study in mind, Upadhyay warned of accelerated glacier melt not only in the Himalayan region but in the Arctic's Svalbard as well.

The Save Himalaya Charitable Foundation Maharashtra played a vital role in the event's success, spearheading organization efforts, public awareness campaigns, policy engagements, and youth involvement.

Ashish Tuli, the Foundation's CEO, emphasized, "Securing the Himalayas is crucial for ensuring humanity's future. We need to act decisively together, as this is not merely an environmental issue—it's about our survival." Trustee Karan Doshi added, "Today, the Himalayas aren't just losing ice, but our identity, culture, and very essence are under threat. We must connect emotionally and scientifically to save the Himalayas for every individual."

Veteran politician A.K. Bajpai of the Lok Janshakti Party remarked, "The Himalayan crisis isn't merely ecological, but a crisis of national existence. Our policies must now become environment-centric or future generations won't forgive us." Kishore Upadhyay, a three-time MLA from Tehri and former State President of the Uttarakhand Congress, has been vocal in fighting for social, environmental, and cultural concerns in the Himalayan region for over 45 years.

Upadhyay also mentioned his policy work with two former Prime Ministers and collaborations with institutions like INTACH for the conservation of cultural heritage.

The event culminated with all participants taking a pledge: "Save Himalayas, Save Water, Save Lives," and appealed to governments and international organizations to prioritize climate crisis mitigation and champion sustainable policies to protect the Himalayas.
