Lithuania Concludes Search for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle from Belarus

The search for an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) that entered Lithuanian airspace from Belarus has concluded, with the drone being found at the Gaižiūnai training ground in central Lithuania on August 1, 2025. The search, which began on Monday, lasted for five days.

The Lithuanian Armed Forces, led by General Raimundas Vaiksnoras, resumed the search for the drone on Tuesday morning. The aim of the search was to protect people's health and lives, as the potential threat posed by the drone remained unknown.

Residents reported hearing noise from the drone early on Monday morning. The military had already tracked the object approaching from Belarusian territory by Monday afternoon. General Vaiksnoras urged the public not to take any action against the drone if found, but to report it immediately to the authorities.

Other scenarios are still being considered, but the focus remains on locating the drone. It remains unclear if the object spotted by residents is the same drone previously detected by the military. The drone's location remained unknown until it was found at the training ground.

This is the second instance this month of an unmanned aerial vehicle entering Lithuania from Belarus. The Lithuanian Armed Forces are taking this incident seriously and are continuing to work on enhancing their air defenses in response.

The priority for the Lithuanian Armed Forces remains locating the drone as soon as possible. The search area for the drone is being narrowed, and the public is being asked to remain vigilant and report any unusual activity to the authorities.

Although the immediate search operation has ended, the investigation into the incident is ongoing. The Lithuanian government is working to determine the intentions behind the drone's entry into Lithuanian airspace and to ensure the safety and security of its citizens.
