Urge to Stay United: PDP Urges Fubara Not to Depart from Our Political Gathering - PDP's Appeal
After the end of the six-month emergency rule in Rivers State, the reinstated Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has been urged by Hakeem Olalemi, the Vice-Chairman (Lagos Central) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to make Rivers great again and nurture the party that brought him to power into a bigger platform.
In a series of statements, Olalemi cautioned political actors against unnecessary jubilation over Fubara's reinstatement, stressing that the mandate originally given by the people had been "weakened" by the prolonged suspension. He emphasised that the people of Rivers State have endured months of uncertainty and deserve to "reap the fruit of their labor" through effective governance.
Olalemi urged Governor Fubara to ensure the PDP becomes stronger in the state and region. He also appealed to the 27 lawmakers who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the crisis to retrace their steps and work to rebuild the PDP.
The crisis in Rivers State stemmed from a prolonged political feud between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike. President Bola Tinubu declared a six-month emergency rule in Rivers State, suspending Governor Fubara, his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, and members of the State House of Assembly.
Olalemi called on the legislative and executive arms to work together for the welfare of the people. He also advised Governor Fubara to govern without fear and remain committed to the people's mandate.
However, Olalemi did not comment on Fubara contesting for a second term, his absence from the Government House after his reinstatement, or Wike's response to Fubara contesting for a second term.
The reinstated Governor Fubara is now expected to focus on rebuilding the PDP, strengthening the party in the state and region, and providing effective governance to the people of Rivers State. His actions in the coming days and weeks will be closely watched by political observers and the general public alike.
