Demand for Media and Non-Governmental Organizations in Sonora to Protest Against Journalist Murders in Gaza; Urge Distancing from Israel

Urge for media and human rights organizations in Sonora to voice condemnation and rally against the murder of journalists in Gaza; seek a severance from Israel's relations

In the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine, a wave of international protests has been gaining momentum. This week, Mexico is set to join the chorus of voices demanding an end to the violence and human rights violations.

The call to action comes from a coalition of organizations, including the Interuniversity and Popular Assembly for Palestine, the Common Platform for Palestine, the National Coordinator of University, Higher Education, Research, and Culture Syndicates (CNSUESIC), the New Workers' Central (NCT), the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE), and over 20 social, popular, political, and human rights organizations from Mexico City.

This Sunday, August 17, at 6:30 PM, a pot-banging protest against the genocide in Palestine and the famine in Gaza will take place at the steps of the University of Sonora to the Cathedral. Replicas from various Solidarity Committees with Palestine in states from north to south of the country will participate in the protest.

The demand is clear: Mexico must break its relations with Israel. The coalition asserts that it's not a war but a genocide, and silence is complicity. The national day of action is to demand the breaking of economic, diplomatic, and military relations between the Mexican government and the Zionist entity of Israel.

The concern over Israel's actions extends to the safety of journalists. The killing of six Palestinian journalists from Al Jazeera media outlet in the latest incident has intensified calls for accountability and international intervention. The killing of Palestinian journalists has been a serious concern in the conflict, often cited in protests and international human rights critiques as evidence of targeting media and obstruction of free reporting on Gaza’s humanitarian crisis.

The international community is urged to take notice of these events and to demand independent investigations and protections for press freedom in conflict zones. The Mexican protest is just one of many demonstrations happening worldwide, reflecting a growing global concern over the situation in Palestine.

The coalition in Mexico is calling upon media outlets to cover this mobilization and to join the protest against the killing of journalists by Israeli military forces. The hope is that by raising awareness and putting pressure on governments, a resolution to this ongoing conflict can be achieved.
