Urban Development Projects Inspection by Investors in Solingen

In the heart of North Rhine-Westphalia, the city of Solingen recently showcased its urban development plans during the 2022 Investor Tour. Organized by the Economic Development Solingen, the event aimed to strengthen trust in Solingen as an investment location and support projects that benefit the city.

The tour commenced at the Café Birker Meer, a listed building that has undergone a successful renovation, setting the tone for the day. The group then moved to the residential construction project on Brühler Straße, where 41 new apartments are being created, 33 of which are publicly subsidized housing.

One of the highlights of the tour was the presentation of the renovated "Old Workshop" at Change.Campus. Sven Heyden, from the Baukonzept planning company, spoke about the ongoing work at the main building, which includes facade revisions, new windows, and the creation of new entrances. The tour concluded at Change.Campus on the former Rasspe site in Stöcken, with the goal of commissioning the building at the beginning of 2026.

Throughout the tour, real estate experts had the opportunity to view current projects on site and experience them more intensively than at trade fairs. The event also provided a platform for representatives from various institutions to present further projects, such as the City Sparkasse Solingen and the re-use of their previous location.

Miriam Macdonald, head of the department of urban development planning in the city administration, spoke about the inner city development concept "City 2030" and the work of the quarter architects. The role of administration and economic development in supporting investors and owners was also discussed.

Anneke Julia Kunz, managing director of the City Development Company (SEG), explained the concept award for the site of the old Solingen main station. The so-called Dreiecksarea at the Omega area and potential development areas in the Südpark were also part of the tour.

The Economic Development Solingen appreciates every small and large 'lighthouse' investment, and the 2022 Investor Tour was no exception. The event was attended by around 25 industry experts from the real estate sector, demonstrating the growing interest in Solingen as an investment location.

Sports facilities could be integrated into the City 2030 inner city development concept, providing recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike. The renovated "Old Workshop" at Change.Campus, with its upcoming completion, could potentially serve as a multifunctional space for sports activities, fostering a more vibrant and active community in Solingen.
