Ural's Young Jiu-Jitsu Stars Shine at Russian Championships
Two young athletes from the Ural region have earned recognition at the Russian Jiu-Jitsu Championships for 12-13-year-olds. Igor Baltsevich claimed a silver medal, while Aleksandr Deryabin took third place in the competition held in Kaluga. Their performances have also opened doors to national team opportunities.
Igor Baltsevich stood out at the championships by securing second place in his weight class. His achievement earned him a spot on Russia's national team for the upcoming World Championships in Abu Dhabi.
Aleksandr Deryabin also made an impact by finishing third in his category. While he did not make the main roster, his performance was strong enough to place him on the reserve list for the national team. The championships in Kaluga highlighted the growing talent in the Ural region. However, exact figures on how many other athletes from the area have qualified for the national team over the past five years remain unavailable.
Baltsevich will now prepare for the World Championships in Abu Dhabi as part of Russia's official delegation. Deryabin, meanwhile, remains on standby as a reserve team member. Both athletes have demonstrated skill and determination in their age group.
