Man Charged with Cyberstalking in Connection to UnitedHealthcare CEO's Death

Shane Daley, a 40-year-old man from New York, has been charged with cyberstalking a family member of the late UnitedHealthcare CEO, Brian Thompson. The incident, which occurred after Thompson's fatal shooting in December, has raised further questions and concerns in the ongoing case.

According to federal prosecutors, Daley, originally from Galway (a small town north of Albany), left threatening voicemails expressing glee about Thompson's death. The voicemails were reportedly made within hours of the shooting outside a hotel in midtown Manhattan. In the messages, Daley is said to have justified the killing and stated that the person targeted deserved to die in a similar manner to Thompson.

Daley, who is yet to be represented by an attorney, is scheduled for arraignment on Wednesday afternoon. However, information regarding his attorney was not immediately available in online federal court records.

The shooting of Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare, on December 4, 2024, in New York City, has been a topic of significant public debate. Luigi Mangione, an American man, has been arrested and charged with the murder. Mangione, who has pleaded not guilty, is currently facing multiple state and federal charges, including first-degree murder, with federal prosecutors seeking the death penalty.

Mangione's defense team has raised several issues, including allegations that the Manhattan DA's office improperly obtained and reviewed his private medical records, potentially violating health privacy laws. The DA's office has denied any wrongdoing, stating that Aetna provided additional information beyond what was requested.

Acting United States Attorney John A. Sarcone issued a statement regarding the case, stating, "We will not tolerate acts of violence or threats against innocent individuals, especially in the aftermath of a tragic event like the shooting of Brian Thompson."

As the investigation into both cases continues, more details are expected to emerge. For now, the motives behind Daley's alleged cyberstalking and Mangione's murder of Thompson remain unclear.

Despite the ongoing investigation into the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO, Brian Thompson, further concerns have arisen with the news of Shane Daley being charged with cyberstalking a family member of Thompson. This incident, related to general-news events, also involves crime-and-justice aspects, as Daley allegedly left threatening messages justifying Thompson's death.
