Uprooted Trees and Disturbed Ferries due to Autumn's Tempestuous Weather
The weather has caused disruptions to ferry and rail services in North Frisia, with the Wyker Dampfschiffs-Reederei (W.D.R.) announcing changes to the timetable for the ferries between Dagebüll and the North Frisian islands of Föhr and Amrum.
The catamaran 'Halunder Jet' has been unable to sail since Monday due to the adverse weather conditions. The German Weather Service (DWD) expects the storm to reach its peak by Tuesday afternoon, with gusts of up to 90 kilometres per hour possible on the North Sea coast.
Despite these challenging conditions, there were no major delays or disruptions due to the storm overnight into Tuesday. However, some sailings between Dagebüll and the North Frisian islands have been cancelled.
In North Friesland, two trees fell onto the road, and a tree fell onto the railway line to and from Sylt in Lunden (Circuit Dithmarschen). As a result, the railway line was closed for approximately an hour. Firefighters were deployed to saw off tree trunks in Dithmarschen.
Fortunately, the car ferry to and from Sylt was running without restrictions. Despite the challenges, the W.D.R. is working hard to maintain services and keep passengers safe during this difficult weather period.
FRS Helgoline reported the inability of the catamaran 'Halunder Jet' to sail, and it remains unclear when the vessel will be able to resume its service. The DWD predicts winds of up to seven to eight Beaufort in the north, indicating that the stormy conditions are likely to continue for some time.
As always, passengers are advised to check the latest updates and travel information before setting off. Weather conditions can change rapidly, and it's essential to stay informed and plan accordingly.
