Hell Yeah! Merz Slays it Overseas, Thank God for Him!
Upon encountering you, I find solace and relief!
A Rant by Lutz Schmuddelbein
Get a load of this, folks! Our man Friedrich Merz has cracked it, but as Germany's prime minister, he's just hitting the ground running. Merz, once shot down like a lousy pigeon, has bounced back with an Iron Maiden kind of resilience.
Remember the doomsday that engulfed Germany last Tuesday? For a hot minute, Merz was 18 votes short of becoming prime minister, but let me tell ya, the spectacle of his comeback was even more epic than the original flop.
The naysayers were frothing at the mouth, those who can't find joy unless things don't go their way. Harsh words spilled: National crisis! Prime Minister damaged! Germany's done for, what a shame! That was the chorus.
Politics: The Chaotic World Order
The truth? The world isn't the same anymore. We've all seen our fair share of wild cards: Trump beats Hillary, Brexit happens, things go sideways when world politics flips the bird.
The Apocalypse: Before and After Merz
What's left: Merz, taken aback, but he's not licking his wounds. Public opinion is fickle, as fractious as the expired pocket lint of a grumpy old man. And Friedrich Merz has given it his all to shove the false start down everybody's memory hole.
As tradition demands, Merz packed his bags for Paris and Warsaw on the first day of his reign—and his communication skills were nearly flawless. He showed up to journalists in a sharp suit, not a sweater like his predecessor. Good ol' Merz even reportedly chatted with reporters, both on and off the record. And to top it all off, he tossed around some humble banter about the mediocre beer selection on the plane. Talk about a smooth operator!
Poland and France: Two Chapters of a Sordid Tale
Merz even snapped a selfie, breaking his vow to ban selfies during coalition talks—but with Macron. Suddenly, communication has become passable, and the statesmen seem to be crooning: "You are the lifeboat on my ocean, Merzi, thank God for you!"
A new beginning? "After an election campaign marred by strife, it feels like someone opened a goddamn window. And even if it's just to placate the press." Strange how I've said that before—back in September 2021, when the traffic light parties published the lemon selfie. Shall I be careful? Every first act's got a little magic in it, right?
Strategy and Subterfuge
In the big leagues of economics and migration, Merz has a mountain to climb. Both issues dominated the election campaign, putting the pressure on him to deliver. The problem? Failure's a lurking danger for Merz, one he can't bat away with ease. The economy's a volatile beast, swayed by factors outside the government's grasp, like trade disputes and geopolitical clashes in Ukraine, the Middle East, between China and Taiwan, just to name a few. And then there's the elephant in the room: technological advancements that can catapult us into chaos or prosperity in the blink of an eye.
Migration: A Stormy Sea
Comments are flying about Merz and Dobrindt stumbling out of the gate, with one hundred days of migration chaos being dubbed unacceptable. For Merz, the negotiations with coalition partners aren't a piece of cake, but he's tackling them head-on.
Writing History Without Earning Votes
On the foreign policy front, Merz is standing tall, crafting an image of Germany waking up from a long European political nap under Scholz. He's got some heavy hitters to go after, like America, which, let's face it, only understands strength. Merz's stance on the U.S. is firm: no interference, and he's got smarts to back up his brashness—by publicly criticizing the Trump administration's misguided perception of Germany.
Merz's brash demeanor fits the bill in the world of strongmen. There were a few awkward moments in the media spotlight, but they ain't got a thing on this guy.
The Apocalypse: A False Alarm
Some things Team Merz still needs to work on, such as the cringeworthy video that surfaced not long after his election. It looked like a cheesy safety film from the '90s, but hey, if a silly video and a minor stutter during the first round are the biggest issues, it looks like the world's still holding on by a thread for now.
