"Upholds Commitment: Ally McCoist Stands Firm on Newcastle United's Alexander Isak Case"
Newcastle United and Liverpool are locked in a tense transfer standoff over the future of Alexander Isak, one of the world's top strikers. Despite Liverpool's £130 million offer, which would set a new British transfer record, Newcastle have turned down the proposal, reportedly aiming to either keep Isak or secure a significantly higher fee.
The saga has seen Isak express frustration publicly, stating on Instagram that he "can't continue" at Newcastle due to "broken promises." However, Newcastle deny having made any commitment to let him leave this summer. The club maintains that Isak remains part of their plans, with reports suggesting that they are actively seeking other forwards, such as Yoane Wissa, to strengthen their squad.
Interestingly, Newcastle may also consider reintegrating Isak into their squad plans if a transfer does not materialize, which could strengthen their negotiating position. The club's stance is bolstered by FIFA rules, which grant them the right to negotiate the transfer fee as Isak is contracted until 2028, giving them legal leverage despite Isak’s discontent.
Liverpool's position is complicated by the recent sales of Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez, which may facilitate an improved offer for Isak. With three weeks remaining until the summer transfer window closes, further talks and negotiations are expected.
Alexander Isak, who finished the 2024-2025 season with 27 goals across all competitions, played a central role in Newcastle's Carabao Cup Final victory over Liverpool last season. The Premier League, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, UEFA Conference League, Emirates FA Cup, and Adobe Women's FA Cup are all available on TNT Sports and Discovery for those wanting to catch the latest football action.
The transfer saga is ongoing, with Liverpool keen but facing a hard stance from Newcastle, and Isak exercising leverage due to contractual and FIFA regulations that require a fee for his transfer until 2028.
