Updates on the outcome of the mayoral ballot as they become available

Get ready for a change in leadership in several English cities, as a fresh wave of mayoral elections is underway. Most of these positions were last contested in 2021.

Here are the eight mayoral races to watch:

  1. Four Metro Mayors, also known as metroforemayors, governing combined authorities like regional bosses.
  2. Two City Mayors, representing individual cities.

The polls closed on May 1st, and partial results are starting to come in. Greater Lincolnshire, West of England, and Doncaster are currently counting results, while the other areas are expected to report on May 2nd.

Voting System: First-Past-The-Post 🗳️

All these mayoral elections will be held using the First-Past-The-Post electoral system, exactly like the one used during Westminster parliamentary elections.

Metro Mayors øø

We are electing four metro mayors, and they will represent combined authorities that comprise several different areas. The counting will take place at local council level.

  1. Cambridgeshire and Peterborough
  2. Established in 2017
  3. Covers six areas: Peterborough, Fenland, Huntingdonshire, East Cambridgeshire, South Cambridgeshire, and Cambridge
  4. Pre-election polls show a possible Conservative win for Paul Bristow over Reform UK and Labour[4] (Results pending)
  5. Greater Lincolnshire
  6. New mayorality in 2025
  7. Covers nine areas: North Lincolnshire, North East Lincolnshire, Boston, Lincoln, East Lindsey, West Lindsey, North Kesteven, South Kesteven, and South Holland
  8. Reform UK’s Andrea Jenkyns leads with 40% support[4] (Results pending)
  9. Hull and East Yorkshire
  10. New mayorality in 2025
  11. Covers both Hull City and East Riding of Yorkshire
  12. Reform UK’s Luke Campbell leads with 35%[4] (Results pending)
  13. West of England
  14. Established in 2017
  15. Covers three areas: Bristol City, South Gloucestershire, and Bath and North East Somerset
  16. Greens likely to win, overtaking Labour by four points[4] (Results pending)

City Mayors

  1. The election for the mayor of Doncaster is ongoing, following the closure of polls on May 1st.
  2. The updated electoral system for the mayoralties in 2025 includes the First-Past-The-Post system, similar to Westminster parliamentary elections.
  3. The mayoral race in Greater Lincolnshire, one of the eight to watch, is currently counting results, as reported on May 1st.
Contests for six mayoral positions are underway, with Labour party contesting four of them. The remaining two positions are for new mayors. Results from these election battles will be posted progressively throughout the night on this page.
