Upcoming Open-Air Film Festival in 2025: An Evening of Quirky Comedies, Epic Blockbusters, and Communal Karaoke

The 15th edition of the SWK Open Air Cinema, a highly anticipated summer event in Krefeld and its surrounding areas, has kick-started its presale with a promising response, according to organizers Uwe Papenroth and Volko Herdick. The cinema's lineup features a mix of current blockbusters, documentaries, family films, and Oscar winners, with "A Million Minutes" returning as the best film of the previous year, following three sold-out screenings in 2024.

Notably, "Conclave" currently leads in presales, followed by action films such as Gladiator II, Mission Impossible - The Final Reckoning, Jurassic World - The Rebirth, and Superman, set for release in July. Papenroth suggests those who find their preferred films sold out online to mark June 10th on their calendars. On this date, an additional 100 tickets for each evening of the SWK Open Air Cinema 2025 will be available for purchase in cash at the SWK & GSAK ServiceCenter, Ostwall 148. New to the program this year is the short film festival "A Storyline" in collaboration with Krefeld's city marketing. Submissions from various genres, including thriller, horror, comedy, and artistic films with a Krefeld connection, have been received. On August 25th, the winning film will be chosen by both the audience and a jury, with cash prizes sponsored by the city of Krefeld, a local magazine, and the SWK Open Air Cinema. There's also a special prize for young filmmakers, funded by the SWK.

Another addition to the event is the sing-along evening with Frau Höpker, who will invite guests to join her on August 23rd at the racetrack. This will be the first-ever sing-along event on the track, promising a lively and relaxed atmosphere with a diverse music program, reminiscent of the Krefeld Christmas singing.
