The Mexican government has announced a strategic plan to strengthen consular services in the United States, focusing on the implementation of mobile consular protection brigades. This initiative aims to offer comprehensive assistance to Mexican nationals in rural areas, agricultural centers, and shelters, as well as in detention centers, workplaces, and prisons.

The plan, spearheaded by Foreign Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente, was made possible by the 115.9 million pesos raised through the "Great Special Draw No. 303, Mexico with Migrant" special lottery draw, first announced in 2023. The funds will be used to bolster the capabilities of 11 consulates located in Brownsville, Detroit, Philadelphia, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Miami, New Brunswick, New Orleans, Omaha, Presidio, and San Bernardino.

The mobile consular protection brigades will offer a range of services, including migratory diagnostics, preventive talks about risks and rights, support in deportation processes, defense in minor offenses, and comprehensive accompaniment to detained minors. In critical cases, payment of migratory bail is contemplated.

These brigades will operate in areas outside urban consulates, serving communities with a high demand for protection services. Their purpose is to verify conditions, ensure respect for due process, and document possible human rights violations. They will also detect cases of abuse or forced removal.

The strategy includes the mobile consular protection brigades as part of the SRE's effort to strengthen consular services in the US. The brigades aim to offer services before local authorities, providing a crucial support system for Mexican nationals navigating complex legal matters related to migration and penal law.

This investment in the protection and defense of Mexican nationals in the United States is a significant step forward in ensuring their rights and well-being are upheld. The mobile consular protection brigades will undoubtedly make a difference in the lives of many, offering a beacon of hope and support in challenging times.
