Upcoming legal proceedings against Reichsbürger individuals
In a significant development, five individuals associated with the Reich Citizens scene are currently involved in a trial process, following arrests linked to their participation in organised training events, including firearms training. The trial, scheduled to begin on July 28 at the Regional Court of Mosbach, is related to a police raid at a Reich Citizen location in Boxberg, Baden-Württemberg, in April 2022.
During the raid, a 50-year-old man was reported to have fired at officers with his fully automatic rifle, injuring two. The public prosecutor's office in Karlsruhe accuses the defendants of possessing nine firearms, including an automatic rifle, and cultivating a total of 38 cannabis plants between April and May 2022.
Initially, the trial for illegal possession of weapons was scheduled for early May, but was postponed due to the defendants' absence. However, as of August 21, 2025, it appears that the defendants are now in custody, as indicated by coordinated raids and arrests involving hundreds of investigators conducted in early-morning operations in Bavaria and other German states.
The defendants, aged 24 to 52, have been reported to be "friendly" with the man convicted in 2023 for attempted murder. If convicted for violating the War Weapons Control Act, the defendants could face up to five years in prison.
The Reich Citizens scene, which does not recognise the Federal Republic and its democratic structures, has around 4,000 members in Baden-Württemberg and approximately 25,000 nationwide. The trial is a testament to the ongoing efforts of law enforcement authorities to combat extremist activities and maintain public safety.
Five trial dates have been set for the defendants, with a verdict possible on August 8. The trial is expected to shed light on the extent of the defendants' involvement in the alleged illegal activities and provide a resolution to this ongoing case.
