Upcoming "IFSC Nations Grand Finale" rock climbing event set for the autumn, promising excitement, competition, and global competition.

The International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) is set to host an exciting new competition in Fukuoka, Japan, from October 23 to 26, 2025. The IFSC Nations Grand Finale will feature a mixed-gender team format, inviting the top-six ranked climbing nations: Japan, France, Slovenia, Austria, the USA, and Great Britain.

Each team will consist of two male and two female climbers, with one reserve climber per gender. The competition will include both boulder and lead climbing formats, with athletes competing in both disciplines under newly developed combined formats that emphasize strategy and team dynamics.

National team coaches will play an active role in guiding tactical approaches during the event, working closely with athletes to develop effective strategies. This innovative format evolves from the earlier Boulder Mixed Team event tested in 2021, expanding it into a more complex, two-discipline team challenge.

The Para Climbing Masters competition will also take place in parallel with the Nations Grand Finale, featuring climbers from the eight different sport classes announced for the LA 2028 Paralympic Games. More information about para climbing can be found in an introductory guide.

After a busy season for the world's best sport climbers, the latest competition will provide an opportunity for athletes to showcase their skills and teamwork in a unique and challenging setting. The IFSC climbing World Cup concludes at the end of September, marking the end of the competitive season before the professional climbers take their well-deserved break until the next World Cup begins in April.

Regional competitions are usually held during the break, but not worldwide events like the Nations Grand Finale. The large-scale climbing World Championships also conclude at the end of September, making the IFSC Nations Grand Finale the final hurrah for the world's best climbers in 2025.

Some professional climbers, like double Olympic champion Janja Garnbret, have taken time away from the sport to rest and recover due to the strain of constant competition. The IFSC, as the governing body responsible for competition climbing events worldwide, is committed to ensuring the well-being of its athletes and promoting a healthy competitive environment.

With the IFSC Nations Grand Finale, the organisation is taking a bold step towards promoting teamwork, strategy, and national pride in the sport of climbing. The competition promises to be an exciting and unforgettable event for both athletes and spectators alike.

Football enthusiasts can look forward to the Premier League's return in April 2026, after a busy sports season concludes in September 2025. This hiatus presents an opportunity for top-flight players to rejuvenate, as they prepare to compete in intense European leagues once more.
