Upcoming Glance at the Road User Charging Conference in 2025
Announcing the 22nd Road User Charging Conference in Brussels, Belgium
Prepare for an exciting gathering of transport and mobility professionals as the 22nd Road User Charging Conference (RUCC) is set to take place in Brussels, Belgium, on March 4-5, 2025. This event, recognised as the world's longest-running independent annual event for the global user-financed transportation community, promises to be a dynamic platform for exploring international perspectives on tolling, road-usage charging, and mobility pricing.
The conference agenda delves into themes such as interoperability, evolving charging models, user acceptance, environmental sustainability, equity, and the politics driving tolling and RUC adoption.
On the first day of the conference, Tom Ghijsels of Brussels Fiscalité will provide an in-depth look at the SmartMove initiative during the opening session. Following this, Heimo Haub of Quarterhill will present a session on the complexities and opportunities of migrating to multi-lane free-flow systems.
In the afternoon, Jack Opiola of the US Department of Transportation will offer updates on the USA's national pilot programme for mileage-based user fees. Teresa Santos from Portugal's Secretary of State for Mobility will discuss how Road User Charging (RUC) could help increase public transport usage while leveraging Portugal's expertise in highway tolling for urban applications.
The second day of the conference will feature a panel discussion examining how toll roads are accelerating transport decarbonisation. Additionally, Jan Strijk from RDW will share updates on the Netherlands' transition to free-flow tolling and the implementation of its heavy goods vehicle charge.
The event is not just about work, however. Attendees can unwind at the Mussels in Brussels Dinner, an exclusive event taking place on the evening of the first day of the conference.
This conference promises to be a valuable opportunity for all those interested in the future of user-financed transportation. Join us in Brussels, Belgium, on March 4-5, 2025, to be part of the conversation. Further details, including the Lead Partner of the conference, will be announced in due course.
