Upcoming Football Analysis for 2025: Gahr's Defense Under Pressure, Offense Showing Promise with Acosta Leading the Way

Gahr Gladiators Gear Up for 2025 Football Season

The Gahr Gladiators, fresh off a competitive 2024 season that saw an 8-6 overall record and a 3-2 record in the Mid-Cities League, are preparing for their 2025 campaign. With their schedule showing no games played so far and a current record of 0-0, the Gladiators are ready to kick off their season on September 22 against Paramount.

The Gladiators' offense will be led by senior quarterback Roman Acosta, who completed 57% of his passes for 1,248 yards and 13 touchdowns in the previous season. Senior Marc Saldana will take on the left guard position, senior Robert Sousa will be the centre, senior Andres Martinez the right guard, and senior Bradley Park the right tackle. Senior Adrian Cruz will also join the offensive line, having spent some time there last season.

On the ground, senior Jaidyn Backus and Malachi Williams are expected to be the top running backs. The duo, along with 14 other ground gainers, helped the Gladiators rush for over 2,200 yards in the previous season. Sophomore De'mir Cunningham will also see some time in the backfield.

The Gladiators' defense will see senior Ogadi Metu and sophomore Riley Bryant as the cornerbacks. Senior Harlym Rayford, who was a defensive end last season, will be moved to the featured linebacker position. The secondary will see competition among seniors Jaidyn Backus, Cunningham, Gutierrez, and Williams.

The Gladiators have lost 15 seniors out of 42 players from their opening day roster for the 2025 season. Despite this, they are expected to rely heavily on their offense this season, with the defense needing to find some players.

Greg Marshall is the head coach of the Gahr Gladiators, with a record of 109-118 over 23 seasons. The Gladiators missed the playoffs in the 2022 season but managed to secure one of the three automatic playoff berths coming out of the Mid-Cities League in 2024.

The 2025 schedule for the Gahr Gladiators includes games against Valley Christian, Cerritos, Trinity Classical Academy, Los Altos, Valencia, Bellflower, Lynwood, Norwalk, Compton Early College, Firebaugh, and no game on September 5. The Gladiators will face Trinity Classical Academy, Los Altos, and Valencia in non-league games.

The Gladiators lost to Norwalk in the 2024 season opener and have lost three of the last four meetings against Valley Christian High. They also lost to Pasadena High 21-17 in the CIF-Southern Section Division 13 finals last season. However, the Gladiators have won nine straight against Lynwood High.

As the Gladiators embark on their 2025 journey, they aim to build on their previous performance and make a strong run in the playoffs. With a mix of experienced players and promising young talents, the Gladiators are ready to take on the challenges that lie ahead.
