Upcoming Film Shooting in Shillong: Production Commences on August 15th
The Bollywood movie titled "Honeymoon in Shillong" is based on the tragic murder of Raja Raghuvanshi. Directed by SP Nimbawat, known for the 2018 film Kabaddi, and scripted by Raja's brother Vipin Raghuvanshi, the film aims to present the true story with 80% of shooting planned in Indore and 20% in Shillong, Meghalaya, where the crime took place.
The script, which is nearly complete by July 2025, seeks to portray the events honestly, with a focus on raising awareness about verifying partners before marriage and stopping betrayal. However, Vipin Raghuvanshi stated that the movie is “only 50% true,” indicating some creative liberty for narrative impact. The film aims to put forth the "100 per cent truth" as understood by Raja’s family to honor his memory and raise social awareness.
The cast and release date for "Honeymoon in Shillong" have not been disclosed as of late July 2025. The production will reflect both personal family perspectives and social cautionary messages, blending reality with some fictional elements.
The couple, Raja and Sonam, had their wedding in Indore on May 11 and left for their honeymoon on May 20. Tragically, Raja's body was recovered on June 2 near a waterfall in Shillong. Sonam, Raj Kushwaha, and their alleged associates Vishal, Akash, and Anand were later arrested in connection with Raja's murder. Sonam resurfaced in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh on June 9.
The family of the slain businessman has given consent for the movie to be made. However, Vipin Raghuvamsi stated that his family will not be associated with the movie project but wants the film to tell the truth. The World Gold Council has revised down its 2025 gold demand, but this news does not seem to have any direct connection with the movie.
The shooting for "Honeymoon in Shillong" is expected to start around April 2026. The film will be shot in both Indore and Shillong and surrounding areas in Meghalaya. The Assam government has initiated a survey to trace 'demography-changing' settlers in Guwahati Forests, a separate issue from the movie production.
The production of the upcoming movie, "Honeymoon in Shillong," which is set to start shooting around April 2026, will delve into the realms of entertainment, offering a blend of movies-and-tv and general-news, as it recreates the tragic crime-and-justice case of Raja Raghuvanshi. Despite presenting the events honestly, the film, slated for release at a later date, will reportedly only be "50% true," allowing creative liberties for narrative impact. The film aims not just to honor Raja's memory but also to serve as a platform for raising social awareness about crime-and-justice issues, such as verifying partners before marriage and stopping betrayal.
