Upcoming Remake Movie in Production - Upcoming film adaptation in the works
Get ready for a fresh take on one of the '80s most iconic series! Following the success of "Top Gun" reboot, director Joseph Kosinski is bringing "Miami Vice" to the big screen. According to industry insiders at "The Hollywood Reporter", Kosinski, known for his work on "Top Gun: Maverick", "Tron: Legacy", and "Oblivion", will helm the new cinema remake.
In this thrilling ride, Dan Gilroy, known for his work on "Nightcrawler" and "The Bourne Legacy", will be responsible for penning the screenplay.
For those who reminisce about the pastel-toned shoulder pad jackets and the high-octane crime action, Don Johnson as Sonny Crockett and Philip Michael Thomas as Ricardo Tubbs brought to life in the original series from 1984 to 1989.
A Remake With a Twist
The upcoming film isn't the first attempt to bring "Miami Vice" to the silver screen. In 2006, Michael Mann, one of the producers of the series and director of the critically-acclaimed "Heat", directed a film. While Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx took on the roles of Crockett and Tubbs respectively, the story was set in the present day rather than the '80s.
The film received mixed reviews upon release and even flopped at the US box office, although it did perform better internationally. Its total gross was $164 million against a budget of $135 million. In recent years, however, the film's reputation has improved, with its unique take on the franchise earning praise from younger filmmakers.
As of now, it's unknown whether original cast members or the new remake actors will appear in Joseph Kosinski's new attempt. The release date remains to be determined. Before the new "Miami Vice" hits the theaters, you can catch Kosinski's film "F1", starring Brad Pitt as a Formula 1 driver, in cinemas on June 25, 2025. Additionally, Kosinski's upcoming project, a UFO conspiracy thriller, is in the works for Apple.
