Upcoming Events: New York Bid Hearing, College Basketball Season Kickoff, and Rodgers' Possible Comeback

In the world of sports, there's always something exciting happening. Here's a rundown of the latest developments in various sports scenes.

College Basketball Season Begins

The college basketball season kicked off on Tuesday with more than a dozen top-25 teams in action. The highly-anticipated matchup of the season is the opening game for top-ranked Gonzaga, who are the clear favourites to win the 2022 national title at numerous top sportsbooks. However, Gonzaga's head coach Mark Few will miss the team's first game of the season against Dixie State due to a DUI arrest. Few pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor DUI and was fined $1,000 in lieu of a four-day jail sentence.

Gonzaga's Rivalry with Texas

Gonzaga's home game on Nov. 13 will see them face fifth-ranked Texas. Few is expected to return for this highly-anticipated matchup.

Duke vs Kentucky

Meanwhile, Duke opens coach Mike Krzyzewski's final season with a marquee matchup against 10th-ranked Kentucky at Madison Square Garden.

College Football Playoff Rankings

In the College Football Playoff's first rankings on Nov. 2, Ohio State, ranked fifth, is a 19-point favourite against Purdue on Saturday. Purdue already has three losses on the season but notched a win over a top-5 team, Michigan State.

Green Bay Packers' Absence

Aaron Rodgers missed the Green Bay Packers' game against the Chiefs due to COVID-19, and his return could impact the Packers-Seahawks line. His replacement, Jordan Love, went 19-34 for 190 yards and a touchdown against the Chiefs.

Seminole Tribe's Online Sports Betting Platform

The Seminole Tribe of Florida rolled out a Florida online sports betting platform last week. If nine operators gain market access in New York, they will be taxed at 51% of their online gross gaming revenue. If a 10th operator receives licensure, the tax rate will drop to 50%.

New York's Mobile Sports Betting Licenses

The New York Gaming Commission is expected to recommend two consortiums for mobile sports betting licenses in New York on Monday. The consortium led by FanDuel includes platform provider and operator bids from DraftKings, BetMGM, and Bally Bet. The Kambi-led consortium contains operator bids from Rush Street Interactive, Caesars Entertainment, PointsBet, Wynn Resorts, and Genting.

However, the Seminole Tribe's business with the state of Florida is not without controversy. A federal judge accused government attorneys of being "woefully unprepared" to argue a case surrounding the Seminole Tribe's gaming compact with the state. Questions remain as to whether the two plaintiffs have standing to file a lawsuit against the federal government and the state of Florida.

Cincinnati vs South Florida

In other sports news, Cincinnati opened as a heavy 24-point favourite against South Florida. Oklahoma is a 5-point favourite against 12th-ranked Baylor and the total is 61.5 points.

As the sports season continues, we can expect more exciting matchups and developments. Stay tuned for more updates!
