James Cameron Abandons Pandora? New Fantasy Project Announced
James Cameron launches new motion picture undertaking - Upcoming cinematic venture spearheaded by James Cameron
Hey there! You might wanna buckle up, 'cause we're diving into some exciting film news! Legendary director, James Cameron (70), known for the "Avatar" series, might be stepping away from his blue alien world for a moment. With "Avatar: Fire and Ash" hitting theaters in December, Cameron has surprised us all by teasing a new project!
Cameron's Dark Fantasy Adventure
What's the lowdown on this new project? Cameron's production company, Lightstorm Entertainment, has nabbed the rights to the fantasy novel "The Devils" by Joe Abercrombie (50). In an Instagram post, the three-time Oscar winner announced this exciting development, among other things.
So, what's "The Devils" about? It's a witty, dark adventure set in an alternate, magical medieval world. Humankind is under threat from flesh-eating elves. Enter Brother Diaz, a monk on a mission to safely guide a lost heir to her coronation, united against the impending apocalypse. To do this, Brother Diaz recruits a motley crew of supernatural monsters and dangerous criminals, the seven devils, to help him along the way.
Two More "Avatar" Movies Planned
It's a bit surprising to see Cameron working on a film outside the "Avatar" series, given that two more installments are planned for 2029 and 2031. However, neither production nor filming has kicked off yet, so there's still room for another project to squeeze in.
Cameron, remembered for his epic work on "Terminator 1 and 2," last ventured beyond the "Avatar" universe way back in 1997 with "Titanic." That film earned him all three of his Oscars. In total, the romantic disaster epic walked away with eleven Academy Awards.
