Ready for a Twist, Avatar Fans? James Cameron's New Project Revealed

Y'all better buckle up, 'cause James Cameron ain't done with us yet! That's right, the 70-year-old iconic director behind the "Avatar" series is dropping some major news – just in time for the December release of "Avatar: Fire and Ash." What's cookin', you ask? Well, ol' Jimmy's got another fantasy feast up his sleeve.

Lemme 'splain

James Cameron's production company, Lightstorm Entertainment, has locked down the rights to fantasy novel "The Devils" penned by Joe Abercrombie (50). What's more, ol' Jimmy himself let the cat outta the bag on good ol' Insta!

Gotcha Hooked, Right? Cameron's Dark Fantasy Vision

"Think sharp wit, horror adventure, epic battles where it's tough to tell who's good or bad, a medieval romp that'll make your head spin – all wrapped up in a quirky, stylish package," Cameron raved in a press statement.

Together with the author, ol' Jimmy'll be cookin' up a screenplay adaptation once work on "Avatar 3" is in the can. And what a challenge it'll be, according to Cameron: "I can't wait to breathe life into these mythical characters."

So, WTF is "The Devils" all 'bout?

"The Devils" takes us to an alternate, magical medieval world where humanity's in a pickle thanks to flesh-eating elves. Enter our hero, Brother Diaz (yep, a monk), who's tasked with guiding a lost heir to her coronation and unleashin' resistance against the coming apocalypse. To do that, ol' Brother Diaz enlists a motley crew of supernatural monsters and criminals known as, you guessed it, the seven devils.

Avatar 4 and 5 ahead, but Cameron's got Time

Let me tell ya, it's a surprise to see Cameron give love to a project outside the "Avatar" universe, especially since we're already lookin' at two more films in 2029 and 2031. But hey, production and filmin' for those ain't started yet, so ol' Jimmy's got himself some wiggle room.

Last time Cameron dabbled in a non-"Avatar" tale was way back in 1997, when he won all his Oscars for "Titanic." Ya know, that little romantic disaster epic that nabbed eleven Academy Awards.

Key Points:

  • Project: A film adaptation of Joe Abercrombie's novel, "The Devils."
