Upcoming BJP President Elections Anticipated Following Vice President Voting
BJP's Presidential Elections on Hold Amidst Ongoing Processes and Pending Issues
The BJP is currently in the final stages of electing a new national president, but the process has hit a stalemate due to several issues. The election of the new state presidents in Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Gujarat is expected to be completed by August 12, but the schedule for the BJP's internal Presidential elections remains uncertain.
The ongoing organizational elections in various states are progressing in phases, with internal elections for the BJP's state president already conducted in 26 states and Union Territories. However, the election in Uttar Pradesh is still awaited due to incomplete member lists and other procedural matters.
The BJP leader, who is closely involved in the key internal process of managing party president elections, spoke to IANS anonymously and did not confirm whether the Presidential elections could face any delays due to the Vice Presidential elections announcement. The Vice Presidential election notification will be issued on August 7, with polling on September 9, 2025.
Among the issues causing the stalemate are delays in conducting elections in a few states, getting a nod from the RSS, setting up caste symmetry to align with public sentiment, and unknown reasons. It is worth noting that J.P. Nadda, the current BJP President, completed his tenure in 2024, and the new president is yet to be elected.
Once the key national-level elections, such as the Vice President and other national posts, are over, the BJP's central leadership will release the schedule for state presidential elections. In Uttar Pradesh, with over half the districts having completed their elections, the party’s central body is expected to announce the timeline through appointed election officers for completing the state president selection process.
If not, the process in these states may take a couple of weeks more. The party officials have indicated that the final schedule for the BJP’s internal Presidential elections is pending the central leadership's decision and official notification. Therefore, while the Vice Presidential election date is fixed for early September, the party’s own Presidential elections (e.g., state-level leadership elections) are yet to be officially scheduled and will be announced after these national level polls and related formalities.
