Upcoming 2025 High School Football Previews Feature Promising Final Seasons for Bellevue's Senior Players, Aspiring for Victory
Bellevue Tigers Gear Up for 2024 Season with High Hopes
The Bellevue Tigers football team is preparing for the 2024 season with a renewed sense of optimism, as coach Chad Montgomery looks to Tristan Woodyard and a talented group of seniors to lead the charge.
Montgomery believes that Woodyard, a versatile running back and receiver, is poised for a breakout season. Last year, Woodyard rushed for 191 yards and scored two touchdowns on 45 carries, and added 244 yards and scored four more touchdowns on 14 receptions. Montgomery believes that getting Woodyard the ball will open up playmaking opportunities for his teammates on offense.
The Tigers are counting on their experience, skill, and size to capture the first winning season since 2014. Montgomery expects the five senior linemen, who have been playing together since their freshman year, to be bigger than most teams they play in Class 1A football. Kayne Ross, Arion Stuckey, Amari Rodgers, Derrick Fortner, and Patrick Vogt are all returning senior veterans who will anchor the Tigers' offensive line.
The Tigers finished the 2021 season with a record of 5-5, with one game canceled, and Montgomery believes that the team would have finished with a record of 6-5 if the canceled game had been played. This season, the Tigers will play their first three games on the road, but they will enjoy having three home games on the new synthetic turf field at Gilligan Stadium after that.
The 2024 schedule includes games against Trimble County, Nicholas County, Pendleton County, St. Henry, Louisville Iroquois, Ludlow, Dayton, Newport, Newport Central Catholic, and Holy Cross. The Tigers beat Lynn Camp, 34-20, in the previous season, and will be looking to build on that success this year.
Despite a regional district prediction for Northern Kentucky football teams in 2025 placing Bellevue third in their district behind Newport Central Catholic and Newport, the team is viewed as a solid team in their class but not necessarily the favorite. However, with a talented roster and a coach who knows the program inside and out, the Tigers will be a team to watch in 2024.
Montgomery took charge at his alma mater in a situation where the team's roster was depleted and unable to compete at the varsity level. Since then, he has worked tirelessly to rebuild the program, and the hard work is starting to pay off. With nine seniors playing their final season for the Tigers this year, the team is hoping to make a strong showing in 2024 and make a run at a winning season.
Derrick Fortner, a 6-foot-2, 235-pound defensive end, had a team-high nine sacks last season, and will be a key player on defense this year. The offense that the Tigers are putting in is designed to allow many people to be involved in carrying the football, so it will be interesting to see how the team's offensive strategy evolves as the season progresses.
Overall, the Bellevue Tigers are looking forward to the 2024 season, and with a talented roster, a strong coaching staff, and a renewed sense of optimism, they are poised to make a strong showing in Class 1A football.
