Unyielding runner Lagat persists in competition amidst a murder investigation
In a recent turn of events, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Eliud Lagat has temporarily stepped aside from his duties in connection with the investigation into the death of teacher and avid blogger, Albert Ojwang, by the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA)[1].
Despite this step-aside, DIG Lagat has remained active in the public eye, conducting surprise visits to police stations and assessments at police institutions, as reported in August 2025[2][3][5]. This suggests that his absence may be partial or temporary rather than a full suspension.
Calls for his stepping aside have been made by some groups to ensure impartiality in the investigation, but no official permanent dismissal has been reported[4]. It is important to note that IPOA has stated that it will hold DIG Lagat accountable should he be found culpable in the murder of Albert Ojwang.
As of the latest reports in August 2025, DIG Eliud Lagat’s status after the IPOA investigation involves stepping aside temporarily but continuing to engage in some official capacity. The investigation into the murder of Albert Ojwang is ongoing, and further updates are expected in due course.
