Wasim Akram Reveals His Top Five Toughest Opponents in a Career Spanning 17 Years

In a candid conversation on the Stick to Cricket podcast, Wasim Akram, the legendary Pakistani cricketer and former captain, shared insights into the most challenging opponents he faced during his illustrious 17-year career.

The list, presented in no particular order, includes some of the greatest cricketers of all time:

  1. Imran Khan: Akram's top pick, Imran Khan, a fellow Pakistani, is recognised for his monumental impact on Pakistan cricket.
  2. Sir Vivian Richards: The West Indies legend, admired not only for his batting but also for his charisma and fearless style, was a formidable adversary for Akram.
  3. Martin Crowe: Renowned for his technical brilliance, Martin Crowe, the former New Zealand captain, was another tough nut to crack.
  4. Brian Lara: Another West Indies great, Lara, was known for his extraordinary batting talent, posing a significant challenge to Akram.
  5. Sachin Tendulkar: The Indian batting legend, widely regarded as one of the greatest in cricket history, also made it to Akram's list.

Akram praised Richards for his overall persona and Crowe for his finesse, while Imran Khan took the top spot for his significance to Pakistan cricket.

During the podcast discussion, Akram also mentioned other greats like Allan Border, Graham Gooch, Adam Gilchrist, and Sunil Gavaskar as notable adversaries. However, he only included the aforementioned five in his top five.

The podcast, titled Stick to Cricket, saw Akram reflecting on the highlights of his career alongside England greats Michael Vaughan, Sir Alastair Cook, David Lloyd, and Phil Tufnell.
