Unveiling the melodies - Jape's symphony

Jape, the Irish electronic-rock band formed as the solo project of Richie Egan, formerly of Redneck Manifesto, has announced a live performance of their key albums at the National Concert Hall in Dublin on 14 September 2025 as part of the NCH Landmarks Series.

The band, known for their unique blend of electronic and rock elements, has released five albums to date, including notable works like The Monkeys In The Zoo Have More Fun Than Me (2004) and the Choice Music Prize-winning Ritual (2008)[1].

Over the years, Jape has performed at major festivals such as Glastonbury, Electric Picnic, Lovebox, and Hard Working Class Heroes. They also supported The Flaming Lips at Belsonic in Belfast in 2008[1].

In an interview with Alan Corr, Richie Egan described his music as an attempt to find "some version of truth" through it, influenced by minimalist composer Steve Reich’s Electric Counterpoint among other inspirations[1].

Recent Events and Influences

Recently, Richie Egan had an infection on his leg that required antibiotics. Despite this, he continues to be an active musician and a dedicated runner, as he described himself as a man who enjoys both making music and running.

When it comes to music, Richie Egan's influences are diverse. He cited Aldous Harding, Bill Callahan, Bibio, Boards of Canada, some French Touch producers, and The Minutemen as his musical inspirations. Currently, he finds himself frequently listening to "Clouds Moving on the Sky" by Emahoy Tsege Mariam Gebru.

If forced to listen to one song for the rest of his life, Richie Egan would choose "Electric Counterpoint" by Steve Reich, a piece that has significantly influenced his own music. One of his favourite lyrics comes from Neil Young's "Though my problems are meaningless, that don't make them go away. I need a crowd of people, but I can't face them day to day."

Connect with Jape

For more details and live updates, Jape maintains an Instagram presence where fans can find current information and connect with the band[1]. Richie Egan invites people to connect with him on Instagram for more information.
