AIG Women's Open Returns to the UK for Three Consecutive Years
The AIG Women's Open, the final Major of the year, is set to make a triumphant return to the United Kingdom for three consecutive years, starting in 2025. This exciting news comes as The R&A continues its mission to elevate women's golf and increase its recognition.
In 2025, the spotlight will shine on Royal Porthcawl in Wales, a course that offers a breathtaking sea view from every hole on the course. This will mark the first time the AIG Women's Open is being played in Wales, making it a historic event for the country. Royal Porthcawl has previously hosted several prestigious golf events, including The Amateur Championship, Walker Cup, Curtis Cup, and Senior Open presented by Rolex.
Following its debut in Wales, the AIG Women's Open will move to Royal Lytham & St Annes in 2026. This will be the 50th edition of the championship, and Royal Lytham has a rich history with the Women's Open, having hosted it multiple times before. Notable victories at this venue include those by Sherri Steinhauer, Annika Sorenstam, and Georgia Hall. Royal Lytham is also famous for hosting The Open Championship and Ryder Cup events.
The 2027 edition of the AIG Women's Open will find a new home at Royal St. George’s Golf Club in Sandwich, Kent, England. This will be the first time the Women's Open is held here, marking a historic step for women's golf at this iconic links course. Royal St. George’s has hosted 15 men’s Open Championships and other significant amateur events.
In addition to these exciting locations, fans can look forward to a number of amenities at the AIG Women's Open Clubhouse. Built in 2022, the clubhouse offers a state-of-the-art gym, trainers, specialized catering, treatment rooms, and more. Fans who purchase tickets using a Mastercard will also receive a £5 discount.
The AIG Women's Open has seen a significant increase in its prize fund since 2019, more than doubling the amount. This year's tournament promises to be an unforgettable event, with an international field featuring players from 14 different countries. In fact, only two players have won all The R&A's major women's golf titles: Georgia Hall and Anna Nordqvist.
This year's AIG Women's Open is shaping up to be the largest women's sporting event to be played in Wales, and golf fans worldwide are eagerly awaiting the action.
