Honouring the Unknown Soldier: A Solemn Event in Vladivostok

A solemn event was held in Gaydamaksky Square, Vladivostok, to commemorate the Day of the Unknown Soldier. Over 300 residents of Primorye attended the event, gathering near the monument to sailors of the Pacific Fleet who fell in battles against Japanese imperialists.

The event started with a minute of silence, followed by the laying of wreaths at the memorial. Alexander Pлоtnikov, the director of the Department of Internal Policy, also took part in the ceremonial wreath-laying.

The Day of the Unknown Soldier is a day to honour the memory, military valor, and immortal feat of Russian and Soviet soldiers whose names remain unknown. In Primorye, over 60,000 residents fell in combat during the Great Patriotic War, and more than 200,000 went to battle.

The regional heroic-patriotic portal 'Podvig vo imya zhizni' has provided information about more than 10,000 previously unknown individuals in the Primorye region. The creator of this platform is Alexander Vasilievich Majorov.

The attendees included veterans, military academy cadets, students, servicemen, representatives of government bodies, and public organizations. The event concluded with students and cadets releasing white balloons into the sky, symbolising the hopes and dreams of those who sacrificed their lives for their homeland.

Alexander Pлотников emphasised the importance of immortalising the memory of those who died defending their homeland. He also highlighted the significant contribution made by Primorye residents to Victory during the Great Patriotic War.

Eight unidentified marine-deсантники are buried in the square's mass grave, a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made during the war. The event served as a reminder to all in attendance of the bravery and sacrifice of the unknown soldiers, and the importance of remembering their heroism.
