Weekend Chaos in the Rhine-Main Area

Police and firefighters had their hands full this past weekend, as a series of events unfolded across the Rhine-Main area. From tossed e-scooters to illegal street races and stolen mopeds, here's a rundown of the excitement.

Fiery Nights

Two residential buildings in Wiesbaden were set ablaze over the weekend. At 10:45 PM on Friday the 20th, hoodlums lit a fire on the 5th floor of an apartment building on Semmelweisstraße without being detected. On Sunday evening around 8:35 PM, another fire broke out in yet another residential building on the same street. Although no one was harmed, the initial estimates put the property damage at around 6,000 euros. The Wiesbaden Criminal Police are handling the investigation, and any tips or suspect information can be reported to them at (0611) 345-0.

Saturday afternoon saw an illegal street race in the heart of Wiesbaden. At around 4:20 PM, a witness reported a black Ford Mustang speeding recklessly in the city center, apparently racing with an unknown white pickup truck. The Ford raced down Mainzer Straße towards the A66 and eventually met its fate at a rest area in Eschborn, where it was seized by the police. A 40-year-old driver now finds himself in hot water, charged with illegal street racing. He was also found to be in possession of a prohibited knife, a knuckleduster, and a baton, adding further trouble for him. Anyone with information about the mystery pickup truck can reach out to the Regional Traffic Department at (0611) 345-0.

Scooters, Meet Gravity

Early on the morning of the 24th, a 24-year-old from Schwerin tried his hand at a new sport - e-scooter juggling. At around 12:40 AM, he tossed two e-scooters off a bridge in Mainz-Kastel onto the tracks below. The suspect was caught along with several witnesses, who saw the act as a result of a verbal argument with an unknown person. The scooters ended up damaged, and the 24-year-old has been charged with the relevant offenses. More witnesses are urged to contact the 2nd Police Station in Wiesbaden at (0611) 345-2240.
