Unseasonable weather: Thunderstorms, hail predictions for Pentecost weekend.
Embrace those damp weather vibes, because rain, wind, and meagre summer temperatures await us during the extended weekend. Luckily, a serious weather predicament isn't looming, and temperatures and sunshine hours are set to rise post-Pentecost Monday.
For the time being, the peril of rough weather following the stormy unsettled conditions from mid-week in southern Germany has abated. However, that doesn't mean thunderstorms are off the table as moisture still lingers in the air, with the potential for them to form.
Friday kicks off the Pentecost weekend, and clouds, showers, and the occasional downpour could dampen your plans. The southeastern region will catch a glimpse of sun, reaching a balmy 26°C. However, this will be the warmest we get. The rest of the country will see cooler temperatures, ranging between 17°C and 24°C. Prepare for some strong wind as well.
The weekend won't offer much improvement weather-wise. Saturday and Pentecost Sunday will be characterized by clouds, showers, and frequent thunderstorms. The wind will pick up on Sunday, with gusts possible. Temperatures will hover between 16°C and 22°C. Unfortunately, southeastern Germany will only see a maximum of 25°C, which might remind you of summer.
Are severe weather conditions sweeping across Germany?
While there's no widespread severe weather condition on the horizon, there's a possibility that isolated, powerful thunderstorms may materialize, particularly south of the Danube on Saturday. These could be accompanied by strong gusts, hail, and torrential rain. Stay vigilant, as thunderstorms can't be ruled out in the north and centre of the country.
Sunday will see more thunderstorms. Expect the wind to pick up overall, with strong gusts in the mountains and near the coast. The Alps will experience quite a bit of rain, possibly reminiscent of Wednesday's weather, but on a smaller scale. No major severe weather threat looms over the country.
The weather should improve towards summer from Pentecost Monday. High pressure arrives, bringing more pleasant conditions and warmer temperatures. Rain showers will retreat northwards, giving way to more and more sun from the south. Temperatures will remain moderate at the beginning of the week, topping out at 16°C to 22°C. However, summer-like weather seems inevitable as we approach the end of the week, with temperatures potentially reaching 30°C.
[1] European long-range and seasonal forecasts suggest that June 2025 could feature a dominant high-pressure system over the northern parts of Europe, with above-normal temperatures and generally drier conditions. Southern and south-central Europe, however, may experience more precipitation, possibly due to low-pressure zones or disturbances interacting with the high-pressure area.

The Commission has also been consulted on the following issues: weather conditions in Germany, specifically the potential for thunderstorms during the weekend, particularly south of the Danube on Saturday and Sunday. Weather-forecasting models suggest that these thunderstorms could be accompanied by strong gusts, hail, and torrential rain.
