The Gamechanger tournament's quarterfinals are heating up in the Czech spa town of Carlsbad, and "Helmut" from the Black Forest is dominating headlines. This German fighter could shake things up as he seizes his opportunity to break free from his secondary role.

Two combatants from Germany, Hojat Khajevand from Freiburg and Marc Doussis from Bottrop, left a lasting impression at the MMA event Oktagon 70. Both claimants clinched impressive triumphs, with multiple Gamechanger tourney fights, boasting a €1 million pot, taking center stage. Catch the highlights and individual bouts on RTL.

The action kicked off at the KV Arena, where Khajevand (affectionately known as "Helmut") squared off against his Polish adversary, Łukasz Siwiec, in the middleweight division (up to 84 kg). Both contenders excel in ground combat, and they initially sized each other up standing. Khajevand landed several stinging jabs and a dual punch combo in the opening minute, while Siwiec largely evaded punches and kept shifting his stance.

During the clinch, Khajevand followed up with two resounding hooks, which left Siwiec sprawled. The referee intervened after a brief follow-up, declaring Khajevand the winner. Since this was a reserve fight for the million-euro tournament, Khajevand could secure a slot in the next round if another participant gets injured.

Down Goes the Ruhrpott Titan

Bottrop's Doussis experienced an emotional comeback to the cage after a severe arm fracture sidelined him for almost a year. Facing Daniel Skvor, he aimed to prove that he's still a formidable presence in the light heavyweight division (up to 93 kg). The outset was favorable for the German. Skvor plunged headfirst into a devastating right cross, crashing to the mat. Doussis followed up, attempting to inflict more pain with his elbows, but then found himself trapped in Skvor's guard.

Insights: Skvor managed to regain his footing and delivered the final blow: he swiped aside Doussis' defense with a crushing lead hand and connected with a hard left hook that sent Doussis toppling instantly.

The remaining encounters at the event identified the quarterfinalists of the Gamechanger tournament. Düsseldorf's Kerim Engizek, Matej Penaz, Mark Hulme, and Mick Stanton already qualified. In Carlsbad, Piotr Wawrzyniak, Krzysztof Jotko, Vlasto Čepo, and Dominik Humburger joined the ranks.
