A group of pro-Palestine protesters disrupted a city council meeting in Milan on Wednesday, demanding the city to sever institutional ties with Tel Aviv. The disruption came amidst a wave of protests that has swept through academia and cities across Italy, including Milan, Turin, Bologna, and Pisa.

The protesters, waving keffiyehs and Palestinian flags, accused the city administration of inaction regarding institutional ties with Israel and even went as far as to accuse the city of being complicit in genocide. The president of the council, Elena Buscemi, invited the citizens to leave the hall to allow the meeting to resume.

Gianmaria Radice, a councilor from the Reformists, described the protesters as "undemocratic". He compared the protesters to students in Pisa who staged similar protests on university campuses, forcing rectors to public confrontations. However, Radice's comments did not deter the protesters, who continued their demonstration outside the council hall after being asked to leave.

The motion that the protesters support, which will be discussed in the near future, generally condemns what is happening in the Gaza Strip. The Green Party councilor, Francesca Cucchiara, is currently collecting signatures for this motion. The discussion about this motion will likely be conducted in a parliamentary or political setting, but no specific individual responsible for leading this future discussion is named in the search results.

In Pisa, a similar group of students disrupted a lecture the previous week, forcing the rector into a public confrontation. The wave of protests has been a topic of discussion in academia, with numerous universities being the scene of occupations, sit-ins, and student assemblies.

Tensions rose during the disruption, but did not escalate into disturbances. It is unclear whether the city administration will respond to the protesters' demands, but the incident highlights the growing sentiment of solidarity with the Palestinian cause in Italy.
