Unrelenting Mentions of Enron Corporation in Spotlight
The Prior Performing Arts Center is currently hosting a captivating production of "Enron," a play that delves into the real-life story of an American energy company's rise and fall.
In this production, Vincent Sekafetz takes on the role of Jeff Skilling, the man who assumed the CEO position after Kenneth Lay stepped down. Skilling's tenure was marked by aggressive growth strategies and the promotion of mark-to-market accounting, which artificially inflated Enron's earnings.
Rowan Laufik portrays Andy Fastow, the company's CFO who orchestrated the creation of Special Purpose Entities (SPEs) to conceal debt and toxic assets off Enron's balance sheet. Feifan Zhao plays Kenneth Lay, the founder and chairman who maintained public confidence in the company's financial health despite internal problems.
The theater setup for "Enron" is unique, with paper boxes surrounding the stage and complex projections. The cast performs unconventional acts, such as moving tables, reorganizing boxes, and doing choreographed numbers on swivel chairs. A humorous moment comes when Vincent and Rowan run on treadmills made out of paper boxes.
Meredith Shaw plays Claudia Roe, a character who is bypassed for the CEO position. Her moment at the end of the production is magical and memorable.
Meanwhile, off-stage, Tim St. John and Frank Amuso, roommates in Loyola Hall, embody warmth, happiness, and comfort in their shared living space. Tim and Frank have been roommates for the past two years and their room exudes the essence of friendship and joy.
Frank Amuso is not only an actor but also a member of the Relationship Peer Educators and co-chair of Alternate College Theatre. He is a member of the College Choir, Chamber Singers, and Chapel Choir. Frank is a Classics/Music double major in the Class of 2026 and was recently named the Crusader of the Week on March 14th.
The departmental production of "Enron" is a must-see for anyone interested in learning more about the infamous Enron scandal and its key players. The show runs until an unspecified date at the Prior Performing Arts Center. Additionally, William Shakespeare's play "Cymbeline" will be performed at the same venue from October 31st to November 10th.
The Prior Performing Arts Center's unique setup for "Enron" is not limited to the stage, as off-campus, Frank Amuso, a member of the Relationship Peer Educators and co-chair of Alternate College Theatre, creates a warm and joyful atmosphere in his Loyola Hall room. The arts and entertainment at the Prior Performing Arts Center extend beyond "Enron," with William Shakespeare's play "Cymbeline" scheduled from October 31st to November 10th, showcasing additional features of the campus's event-filled arts calendar.
