As you tread the pathways of Skingrad, a furtive wood elf will cross your path. His name's Glarthir, and he wants to set up a clandestine meeting with you at midnight near Skingrad's esteemed Great Chapel of Julianos. Strange things are afoot in this province, and you're about to find out why.
Meet Glarthir at the appointed hour, and he'll spill the beans: he's convinced that everyone in town is part of a sinister conspiracy against him. Nosey Parker much? Well, whether you decide to assist or distance yourself from his paranoia, prepare yourself for an unforgettable journey.
Dancing with Shadows
Should you choose to lend a helping hand, Glarthir will ask you to keep an eye on select individuals within the town during the wee hours of the night. You've got two options:
- Stakeout: Head to each character's abode and keep watch at designated hours. If you're out of patience, skip time until you can catch them when you please.
- Skipping Steps: By all means, you can also just tell Glarthir whether they're following him or not—be honest, or entertain him with lies, whichever tickles your fancy.
Be warned though, should you set your sights on Davide Surilie and decide to spill the beans about his "suspicious" activities, you'd better watch your back. If past lies have slipped off your tongue, Glarthir might feel compelled to take matters into his own hands and come knocking.
Catch 22: Key Decisions
If you've decided to work with the paranoid Glarthir, he'll eventually hand you a "list of death." Take the note and either:
- Rats him out: Confide in a guard, and they'll take it from here. Prepare for Glarthir's demise (and potential rewards).
- Rat out the Surilie brothers: If they happen to be on Glarthir's hit list, they'll take care of things themselves.
- Let the Dark Brotherhood in: Any of Glarthir's targets are considered innocent NPCs to the Dark Brotherhood – their deaths are a no-no, and Lucian Lachance will take notice.
The Glarthir Estate
Regardless of the path you choose, you can still reap rewards from the paranoid woodland hobo. Once Glarthir is gone, scour his home for his house key and enter the residence. Search the premises, and you'll find a tidy sum of 800 gold stashed in a nearby basket. A quick search of the rest of the estate won't hurt either—you'll find a handful of other valuable items waiting to meet their new owner. No one ever said making the ethical choice would be easy on the wallet!
