Hello there, folks! Greetings from the bustling metropolis of Seoul. Taking the reins from my esteemed colleagues Mirjam Bittner and Christine Leitner, I'm excited to keep you updated on the morning happenings for the next four weekdays. Here's a taste of that wonderland called Asia, laced with a touch of Korean politeness that'll have you bowing and thinking twice before missing a bus.

Now, let's dive deep into the heart of conflict, where Ukraine meets Russia - and where spirits and drones recently clashed.

Ukraine Strikes Back: Operation Spiderweb Unleashed

As the war in Ukraine winds on, the narrative may have taken a decisive turn this weekend. In an intricate operation, Ukraine's Security Service, also known as the SBU, executed an ambitious drone attack under the codename Operation Spiderweb.

Nightfall to Sunday: Chaos across Borders

Saturday Night: A series of suspected terror attacks occurred across the Russian border in Bryansk and Kursk, leaving lives in shambles. In Bryansk, a bridge disaster ensued, causing injuries to dozens of civilians and seven fatalities. Soon after, another bridge collapse was reported in Kursk, along with a derailed train. Stray comments on terrorism and false flag operations stirred confusion, with Ukraine striving to pin the havoc on Russia.

Sunday: A Ukrainian training center was shelled with rockets, resulting in the deaths of 12 soldiers, consequently leading to the resignation of the responsible general. Hours later, Operation Spiderweb commenced as Ukraine claimed to have completed a series of drone attacks on four different Russian air bases, with the aim of destroying numerous military aircraft. The success of the operation, said to be the furthest reach for Ukraine in the war, left dozens of Russian aircraft in flames, nearly obliterating a third of their bomber fleet, worth around $7 billion.

Today: Diplomacy Awaits

A second round of talks between Ukraine and Russia is scheduled to take place in Istanbul following the first meeting's unsuccessful outcome two weeks ago. As the dynamic of the peace talks shifts, both diplomats and combatants remain hopeful for meaningful progress.

President Zelensky hailed the drone strike as the most impactful operation Ukraine has carried out during the war.

As always, this war has been nothing short of a series of unexpected curveballs. Only time will reveal whether this strategic gambit proves a turning point in the struggle or another chapter in this war's classification as unpredictable as the DAX, post-Trump tariffs.

SPD Embracing Change: A Future-Focused Transformation

Inside the SPD's (formerly known as the Social Democratic Party) labyrinth of circular logic, a new future awaits. An internal commission has proposed a 'Future Program 2040', to which former party leader Norbert Walter-Borjans lends his support. His vision for the SPD transcends mere political procedure, calling for a party that serves as a check, not a silent observer, to conservative politics. We wish the Social Democrats nothing but the best as they embark on this transformative journey.

The Earth's Core Bleeds - Gold and More

Quench your curiosity with a splash of the extraordinary! Surprise, surprise, dear reader: our Earth bleeds gold, claims German geologist Nils Messling. Along with his team, they studied Basalt rocks in Hawaii for over three years, discovering that golden and valuable molten metals seep into the Earth's crust in the tiniest of quantities. This revelation may prompt Donald Trump to consider the Earth's core the 52nd state - at least until Canada catches wind of it.
