The trial for the death of a 17-year-old who was stabbed to death in July is currently underway at the Regional Court of Frankenthal. The accused, a 21-year-old man, is charged with manslaughter.

The incident occurred at a barbecue party in the woods near Weingarten. Witnesses testify that the victim and the defendant had an altercation, with the victim shone a light into the defendant's car, and the defendant forcefully opened the door, grabbed a knife, and stabbed the teenager.

One witness, a 16-year-old friend of the victim, stated that the defendant came out of the car with a knife, the victim slapped the defendant, and was then stabbed. Another 17-year-old eyewitness from Germersheim repeated the story, adding that they did not have any trouble with the defendant before the incident.

The defense attorney is arguing that the defendant's actions were self-defense, claiming that he returned to Weingarten after the party to find his lost phone and stabbed in fear and self-defense because he felt threatened. However, the prosecution believes the defendant and the victim did not know each other and got into an argument.

The defense is also drawing attention to inconsistencies in the witness's statements between the police interviews and their testimony in court. The witness could neither confirm nor deny the defense's claim that the victim was often aggressive.

The victim's mother and 21-year-old brother are joining the case as co-plaintiffs. The third witness, an 18-year-old from Germersheim, heard that the victim and the defendant had argued and saw the victim with a cut on his eye. The witness was walking towards the taxi on the path, about 50 meters or more away when the incident occurred.

The defendant initially fled but was arrested a few hours later. The trial is ongoing, and the latest updates can be found in local German news sources or legal announcements.

Politics might discuss the impact of the ongoing trial involving a 21-year-old accused of manslaughter at the Regional Court of Frankenthal, a case initially reported in crime-and-justice sections and general-news. The trial revolves around a fatal altercation at a barbecue party, and witnesses have provided conflicting statements about the event and the relationship between the victim and the accused.
