Despite their strong showing, the environmentalist Greens and the Free Democrats (FDP) still managed to secure 11.9% and 5.2% respectively. In the eastern German federal states, the AfD even topped the charts. The newly formed left-wing alliance, Sahra Wagenknecht's Alliance (BSW), made an impressive debut by bagging 6.2% of the votes!
