It's a gruesome echo of history. On June 1, 2025, in the peaceful town of Boulder, Colorado, a group of eight, aged 52 to 88, were gathering to call for the release of Israeli hostages. The attack—carried out using a home-made flamethrower and Molotov cocktails—left eight innocent people with injuries ranging from burns to life-threatening wounds[2][3]. This sickening assault was sparked by nothing more than their call for freedom and humanitarian aid for their beleaguered brethren[1].

The alleged perpetrator of this heinous crime has been identified as Mohamed Soliman, a 45-year-old Egyptian immigrant[3]. Details are still emerging, but it appears Soliman targeted the group, dousing its members in a flammable liquid before setting them alight[2][3]. The cruel reality of the assault is not lost on anyone—this was a group of elderly people, many of whom were refugees from the horrors of Nazi Germany. One such individual, an 88-year-old woman, reportedly escaped the clutches of the Nazi regime only to fall victim to a different brand of hate and violence in America[1].

As the harrowing footage of the assault unfolds, images of Soliman holding makeshift flamethrowers in hand and shouting, "Free Palestine," linger in the minds of those who bear witness[2]. The FBI has since named the attack a suspected terror attack and cited it as an act of anti-Semitism[1].

In a time of heightened tension surrounding the Israel-Hamas conflict, this brutal attack should serve as a grim reminder that the battle for human rights, for justice, isn't confined to distant lands[4]. The propagandists may hide behind veils of solidarity, but a desire for power and control often lurks beneath—a desire that knows no bounds, no borders, no morality.

The United States has long served as a sanctuary for those fleeing the horrors of the Old World, providing solace and a new beginning[4]. It's disheartening to think that today, in 2025, the American republic has become a breeding ground for the very same hatred that forced those refugees to flee in the first place. The moral enormity of this act should weigh heavily upon all who witness it—if we fail to confront and resist this violent old rage, we risk letting darkness claim us once more.

As the world mourns, we must remember the victims and the lessons that history ought to have taught us[1]. True progress demands something more than tolerance—it demands active resistance against the hatred, injustice, and violence that have marred our world for far too long. We must not allow ourselves to become complacent; we must stay vigilant, standing firm against the tyranny of ignorance and hatred that threaten to consume us—lest we be condemned to repeat the mistakes of our past.

Some of these abhorrent acts were committed under the banner of "Free Palestine"[2]. But make no mistake: the chant of "Free Palestine" has nothing to do with the Palestinians, and everything to do with the self-loathing activist class of the West—a group that wraps itsaz hate-filled rejection of reason and the Enlightenment in the guise of a keffiyeh to make medieval hysteria seem hip and trendy.

As we continue to confront this escalating violence, we must call it what it is: an echo of our darker selves, a reminder of the poison that lurks within us all. And we must shake off our complacency, refuse to turn a blind eye, and stand with those who are struggling for the light—because if we don't, we risk becoming the very monsters we swear to oppose.

  1. The attack on the elderly protesters in Boulder, Colorado serves as a chilling reminder of the unrelenting war-and-conflicts that have plagued various cultures and societies throughout history, where free speech and the right to assemble peaceful gatherings is often met with violence and terror.
  2. In the wake of the Colorado attack, it is imperative to address the escalating issue of cancel culture, especially in light of the identity politics that has gripped general-news coverage, with activists rejecting reason and embracing extremism in the name of solidarity, blurring the lines between free speech and violence.
  3. The cultural implications of the Colorado incident extend beyond the geographical boundaries, underscoring the importance of standing firm against hate-fuelled ideologies that threaten to destroy innocent lives, both in subject matters such as crime-and-justice and politics.
  4. The resilience of humanity must be recognized and championed, as our values, rooted in the Enlightenment and the principles of free speech, justice, and human rights, provide the light in the ongoing battle against the darkness of hatred and violence that persists in our world.
