Mülheim Rowing Star Niklas Mattheis Wins Gold in Para Mixed Double Sculls at Finals 2025

In an unexpected turn of events, Niklas Mattheis, a member of Mülheim's Rowing and Racing Community, emerged victorious in the Para Mixed Double Sculls event at the Finals 2025 in Dresden. Rowing alongside Hermine Krumbein, Mattheis secured the gold medal by three lengths after overtaking the leading boat following a technical error.

Para Mixed Double Sculls is a unique rowing event that combines adaptive (para) rowing classifications with mixed gender crews. The event requires strong coordination and communication between the two rowers, each using two oars.

Mattheis's sudden participation in the Finals 2025 remains somewhat of a mystery, as there is no direct information available explaining the unexpected nature of his inclusion. It is possible that he was a late replacement or received a sudden call-up, which sometimes happens due to injury, illness, or other unforeseen circumstances before major finals.

Meanwhile, in other events, the German eight, including Tobias Strangemann from Kirchhellen, won the championship in the rowing competitions at the Finals 2025. However, the Ruhr eight from Essen did not come close to a medal in the rowing competitions.

In the gymnastics competitions, Mülheim's top turner, Artur Sahakyan of KTV Ruhr-West, won the second medal for the city. Sahakyan finished second in the men's rings event with a score of 13.4000 points. Alexander Kunz won the German championship in the same event with a score of 13.566 points.

In the athletics competitions, Kevin Brucha, a teammate of BSC Bottrop archers, canoeists, and hurdlers, excelled in the long jump with second place and a new city record. Berkay Sen from TB Essen-Altendorf missed the final in the men's rings event.

The home competitions of the GymTeam Metropole Ruhr will take place in the 2nd Bundesliga North on specific dates this year. Adults pay 5 euros, and youth pay 3 euros for the home competitions, which will take place at the gymnasium at Haedenkampstraße 72 in Essen, starting at 5 pm.
