Hockey enthusiasts everywhere are still buzzing about the German ice hockey team's triumph at the World Cup, thanks to their unshakable attitude, not even Phantom Zamboni operators could derail their winning streak. The NHL juggernaut, Tim Stützle, led the charge with a sparkling 2-assist performance, guiding the team of coach Harold Kreis to a resounding 5:2 victory over Norway.

Now sitting pretty with a formidable nine points, the DEB selection heads into the World Cup classic against Switzerland (16:20/ProSieben and MagentaSport) as table leaders. This match acts as the start of more demanding missions in the preliminary round, with the USA and defending champion Czech Republic hot on their heels.

"Smooth Sailing... Oh, the Ice!"

Stützle, fresh off his playoff exit with the Ottawa Senators, kicked things off with a perfectly executed pass, setting up the early 1:0 goal. His unyielding spirit was evident as he rammed an opposing player into the boards like a wayward puck.

As the clock ticked down to the final minutes of the first period, a sizable piece of ice mysteriously separate at the boards, causing the referees to hasten both teams to the locker rooms prematurely. It seems even the ice Gods couldn't resist the DEB's reign, but a seasoned team like this remains unfazed. Stützle, commenting on ProSieben, admitted, "I've never seen anything like this. I hope we have reliable ice technicians." Though the approximately 1,000 German fans might have wished otherwise, the opposing team was reminded, "You're only cracking the ice!"

The New Guard: Stützle Steals the Spotlight

Concerns surrounding Stützle's form during the first two preliminary round games were quickly put to rest as he replaced Leo Pföderl and delivered a standout performance for the Berlin team. Despite some teething troubles with the Eisbären in the initial matches, coach Kreis decided to give him a much-needed breather, acknowledging, "We have seven games in ten days. Therefore, we decided to give him a break."

The German defense, anchored by Moritz Seider, endured some hefty checks in the opening moments of the match. Stützle, ever the consummate pro, opened the scoring, evading the skilled Norwegian netminder Jonas Arntzen only to dish off to Yasin Ehliz. The 2-goal cushion was soon restored when Marc Michaelis scored the second goal, assisted by Ehliz again.

As the match wore on, Norway gradually began to push back. However, Wojciech Stachowiak maintained Germany's lead with a well-placed shot, and Joshua Samanski ensured the Cinderella story continued with a goal off a silky pass from Lukas Reichel. Despite the occasional ice-related interruptions, the DEB team refused to let up, with Stützle narrowly missing his first goal on a mesmerizing solo run in the final period.
