The Formula One racing world is abuzz with excitement as the sport introduces a new and innovative tradition - Lego trophies. These trophies, crafted entirely from Lego bricks, mark the first time that F1 podium trophies have been made from these iconic building blocks. The Lego trophies are a significant part of Formula One's 75th anniversary celebrations at the Silverstone racetrack.

### Design and Creation

The Lego trophies are inspired by the RAC (Royal Automobile Club) trophy, a symbol of the sport's rich history. Designed by Lego designer Samuel Liltorp Johnson at Lego’s headquarters in Billund, Denmark, the trophies required the expertise of a team of seven master builders. The winning driver's trophy, standing at 59 cm tall and weighing just over 2kg, is made of 2,717 Lego elements and features a stunning golden tint. The second and third place trophies, standing at 43 cm tall, consist of 2,298 Lego elements each, both weighing 1.5kg, and are adorned with white, red, and blue detailing. The winning constructor's trophy shares the same characteristics as the first place trophy, but with dark blue and gold colours.

Special care was taken to ensure the trophies could withstand the post-race celebrations, such as champagne spraying and handling on the podium. A new process was implemented to meet the "breakneck" deadline, with the team working diligently for approximately 210 hours to complete all four trophies.

### Significance

The Lego trophies are more than just a novelty item. They represent a celebration of F1’s 75 years, blending the tradition of the sport with the creativity and playful spirit of Lego. Silverstone CEO Stuart Pringle highlighted the trophies as a fitting tribute to the iconic status of Silverstone, the location of the first Formula 1 World Championship race 75 years ago, and a unique way to make the 2025 British Grand Prix memorable.

Lego’s involvement also reflects F1’s strategy to engage younger audiences and families by showcasing the limitless creative possibilities that start from a single Lego brick, linking this playful approach to the excitement and innovation of Formula 1 racing. This initiative follows other Lego-F1 collaborations in 2025, notably the creation of Lego-built cars for the drivers’ pre-race parade.

### Podium Winners

At the ceremony, Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri, and Nico Hulkenberg were presented with the trophies. Hulkenberg, who scored his first-ever podium in F1 after 239 races, expressed his gratitude and excitement over the unique and historic trophies.

Samuel Liltorp Johnson, the creative lead on the Lego Formula One trophies, expressed that the team had worked closely with the Silverstone team to create a trophy infused with the heritage and magic of F1 combined with the Lego flair. Johnson considers the trophies priceless due to the many hours invested and the experience of being at Silverstone.

As the Formula One season continues, the Lego trophies will undoubtedly become a cherished symbol of the sport's past, present, and future, embodying the spirit of innovation, creativity, and fan engagement that F1 and Lego share. Johnson considers the project the end of a "magic" journey and insists that the partnership will not go away any time soon.

The custom-made Lego trophies, inspired by the RAC trophy and designed by Lego designer Samuel Liltorp Johnson, are a unique addition to Formula One racing events, symbolizing the blend of the sport's rich tradition with the creative spirit of Lego. The winning driver, Lando Norris, and others, including Oscar Piastri and Nico Hulkenberg, were presented with these trophies at the ceremony, adding an extra layer of excitement to the racing world, as these Lego trophies serve as cherished symbols of Formula One's past, present, and future.
