Step into the infamous Kalkberg-Arena in Bad Segeberg as the Karl-May-Spiele make a thrilling return this weekend, with the premiere of "Half-Blood" on Saturday night! Get ready for a whirlwind of action, drama, and gripping performances.
According to managing director Ute Thienel, this year is no ordinary season. The stage designers have crafted an enchanting set that transports the audience right into the heart of the American South, boasting a magnificent white villa with a balcony and veranda, reminiscent of classics like "Flames in the Storm" and "Gone with the Wind."
The Return of the Legends: Winnetou and Old Shatterhand!
Expect the much-anticipated reunion of Winnetou, portrayed by Alexander Klaws for the fifth time, and his counterpart, Old Shatterhand, played by Bastian Semm.
The star-studded ensemble includes Sonja Kirchberger and Francis Fulton-Smith, who play the devious gangster duo, Charles and Donna Leveret, residing in the stylish Southern villa.
The Price of Glamour: A Sizable Investment!
All this grandeur comes with a price tag of 6.5 million euros, the most ever spent on a season at the Karl-May-Spiele. However, with around 200,000 paying guests in the audience, these costs would be covered, as per Ute Thienel's calculations.
Recent renovations include LED spotlights replacing large stage lights and the renovation of the 80-meter-long riding path for almost 250,000 euros.
72 Performances of "Half-Blood" Await!
Fun fact: The Karl-May-Spiele are predominantly owned by the municipal government, with the remainder belonging to private investors. Approximately 25% of the profits stay with the organizers, with the rest supporting the city's tourist development. In 2024, this amounted to around 2.3 million euros.
