Unplanned and supposedly entertaining album release: Chrissie Hynde collaborates with Debbie Harry, Dave Gahan, and Rufus Wainwright on a duets album

Chrissie Hynde, the iconic rock singer and Pretenders frontwoman, has announced her latest project - a duets album titled "Duets Special." This upcoming album, set for release on October 17, 2025, via Parlophone, promises an exciting lineup of collaborations with some of the biggest names in the music industry.

The album features 13 duets, including collaborations with k.d. lang, the late Mark Lanegan, Lucinda Williams, Dave Gahan, Cat Power, Brandon Flowers, Shirley Manson, Debbie Harry, Julian Lennon, and Dan Auerbach.

The first single from the album, a cover of "Always On My Mind," features Rufus Wainwright. Another notable track is "It's Only Love," a cover from the Beatles' Help! album, which features Chrissie Hynde and Julian Lennon.

Hynde's appreciation for raw, unadulterated rock music was evident when she praised Oasis for their minimal light show and lack of extra people on stage, calling them a "proper f**king rock band." This admiration was shown when she attended an Oasis show with James Walbourne and Johnny Marr. In fact, she was even seen dancing with Kate Moss at the show to the support act, Richard Ashcroft.

The idea for the album was born during a conversation between Hynde and Rufus Wainwright's husband, Jörn. Hynde, who is no novice when it comes to duets, having reached a UK Number One with UB40's version of "I Got You Babe" in 1985, has titled the album Duets Special.

The album features stripped-down, intimate arrangements and is themed around “great melodies.” The collaborators include prominent artists like k.d. lang, the late Mark Lanegan, Lucinda Williams, Dave Gahan, and Shirley Manson among others.

With "Duets Special," Chrissie Hynde continues to showcase her versatility and love for music, collaborating with some of the biggest names in the industry to deliver an album filled with great melodies and heartfelt performances.
