Black Sea Tensions: Russia's Defense Claims and Ukrainian Drone Attacks
From the transmissions of the Russian Ministry of Defense, it appears their gun batteries along the Black Sea Fleet were in action from 16:40 to 18:15. According to their reports via Telegram, they managed to take out two Ukrainian unmanned submarines during this period.
As per the online platform, Kuban 24, close to a dozen Storm Shadow and "Neptune-MD" missiles met their demise over the Black Sea. The current situation in the Black Sea is a delicate truce, teetering on the edge of continuous Ukrainian naval drone activity. As of May 3–5, 2025, there seems to be a temporary agreement between Russia and Ukraine regarding the Black Sea and energy infrastructure, though its enforcement remains uncertain. Russia is seeking sanctions relief on agricultural exports, whereas Ukraine demands immediate implementation without concessions.
Recently, Ukraine has shown dominance in drone warfare, putting pressure on Russia's Black Sea Fleet. Notably, Ukraine launched a massive drone attack on Sevastopol, a significant Russian naval base in Crimea, on May 3.
