Unleashed festivity or simply put, an outbreak of excitement!
The Stuttgart State Opera is gearing up for an extraordinary new season, promising 135 performances of classical opera that cater to various interest groups. With a focus on innovation, emotional engagement, and contemporary cultural themes, the opera house aims to stand out and connect with audiences on a deeper level.
In the tradition of early projects by La Fura dels Baus and Vienna Actionism, Florentina Holzinger emerges as a significant artistic voice of our time. Her influence can be seen in the upcoming opera "Station Paradiso," composed by Sara Glojnaric, a Croatian composer who studied in Stuttgart.
"Station Paradiso" marks a significant milestone as the first opera to deal with stories of migration, based on interviews with Stuttgart's so-called guest workers. This groundbreaking production is set to premiere on September 20, as part of a weekend full of possibilities for the start of the new season.
The Stuttgart State Opera's commitment to creating exciting and emotionally charged performances is evident in their collaboration with punk band Die Nerven. This unique partnership is an attempt to attract new audiences and offer a fresh perspective on classical opera.
The new season also sees the return of the successful "Sancta" project, which caused a scandal over a hundred years ago due to blasphemy. Despite initial resistance, "Sancta" proved to be an interesting experiment, setting high standards and ultimately becoming a success. In recognition of its impact, the magazine "Theater heute" named "Sancta" as "Performance of the Year."
Matthias Klink and Croatian ensemble stars Diana Haller and Goran Juric will be involved in the artistic project of "Station Paradiso." The Stuttgart State Opera believes in creating excitement and enthusiasm in their performances, aiming to provide inspiration and a space for emotions.
On September 20, the premiere of the new play "A Round Thing" by Tomer Gardi begins in the Kammertheater. Meanwhile, the Stuttgart Ballet will present their annual report and offer insights into the new season at the city library in the Europaviertel.
The weekend concludes with the magnificent state orchestra inviting guests to the opening concert at the opera house, titled "Music from Home." On the same day, a theater festival takes place from 11 am to 6 pm, offering programs for all age groups and a preview of the music theater premiere "I Did It My Way."
As the Stuttgart State Opera continues to push boundaries and engage with contemporary issues, it remains a beacon of artistic excellence and innovation in the city. With its focus on local cultural identities and aesthetic preferences, the opera house aims to appeal to a broad audience, ensuring that its productions resonate with the community and beyond.
