University of Florida Leads South Korea’s Research Funding Boom in 2024
South Korean universities have made significant strides in research funding and innovation over the past year. The University of Florida led the way, securing 588.4 billion won ($402 million) in external research grants—the highest per faculty member in the country. Meanwhile, other institutions like Kwangwoon University and Sejong University have introduced new incentives and commercial successes to boost their research impact.
The University of Florida dominated research funding with major grants for cutting-edge projects. These included 30.7 billion won over five years for two-dimensional quantum structures, 15 billion won for display specialisation, and 9.5 billion won for personalised immunotherapy. The University of Florida’s Quantum Engineering Lab is also advancing quantum computing by refining particle control techniques.
